Hello dear readers! The Substack platform is constantly evolving and there are some fun new features I thought we might give a try for a more engaged experience with our Nature’s Pharmacy community. One of the features is the option for a livestream for “Office Hours”!
How does it work?
I will initiative the livestream from the Substack app. During the live stream, viewers can submit questions through the chat feature, which I will then address live on the video. To kick off the conversation, post questions below in comments here.
Who is this for?
I’ll open this opportunity to all subscribers (free and paid) this first round. Future Office Hours will be a paid subscriber only perk.
When will it happen?
You’ll receive a notification by email when the Office Hours stream goes live. You can also access the stream directly on the Substack app when it goes live. This is my first time trying this, so hopefully we won’t have too many technical glitches!
Date: This Saturday, March 1st
Time: 8 AM Pacific Time / 11 AM Eastern Time (USA)
Can’t make it? Don’t worry, I will record the session and post it so you can watch at a later date if interested.
A Mini-Lesson to Spur Conversation
A few years ago, I created some educational videos (mini-lessons) for students in my Botanical Medicine and Health class. This one offers an introduction to the topics of Chemical Ecology and Plant Secondary Metabolism (6 minutes):
Feel free to post questions around the topics covered in this lesson, or on other topics related to what we cover in Nature’s Pharmacy.
I hope to see you there!
Yours in health, Dr. Quave
Cassandra L. Quave, Ph.D. is a Guggenheim Fellow, CNN Champion for Change, Fellow of the National Academy of Inventors, recipient of The National Academies Award for Excellence in Science Communication, and award-winning author of The Plant Hunter. Her day job is as professor and herbarium director at Emory University School of Medicine, where she leads a group of research scientists studying medicinal plants to find new life-saving drugs from nature. She hosts the Foodie Pharmacology podcast and writes the Nature’s Pharmacy newsletter to share the science behind natural medicines. To support her effort, consider a paid or founding subscription to Nature’s Pharmacy or donation to her lab research.
The Plant Hunter is available in hardcover, paperback, audio, and e-book formats!
This sounds great! Looking forward to it (esp the video)!
I’d love to learn more about antibiotic/antiviral herbs - perhaps even a few we could grow ourselves? (Of course, that could cover *several* sessions, or a whole “semester”!) I have been taking them myself for years, but worry about growing conditions and whatever else might be included in them these days.
(My favs: olive leaf, cat’s claw, barberry, oregano oil, rosemary, dandelion - of these, have only grown dandelions, but not on purpose, lol!)
Thanks so much for this Substack and the new features!
What new and promising projects are you working on or have you heard about? Any info of concern about using older herbs now that we have been using them for years? Also info on herbs that should not be used in conjunction with each other? Thanks for doing this live! Word will spread rapidly after this one is posted later. :-) Still waiting for you to find a cure for Lyme! Tracey
