Under the Microscope: Bacteria and Eczema
Read a research feature on our work to develop a new medicine for eczema!
The Quave Lab at Emory has been hard at work researching a new way to treat eczema using molecules found in plants. I was so honored to be selected for one of the Eczema Champion Research Grants funded by the National Eczema Association (NEA). Last week, the NEA published a special feature on our research.
My hope is that this discovery will one day lead to a first-in-class, non-steroidal therapy for treating eczema. Beyond our lab research at Emory, which has resulted in the issuance of a substantial patent portfolio, we are actively developing this drug in preparation for future human testing through the traditional FDA approval pathways. The drug development work is being carried out under the auspices of my startup company, Verdant Scientific, Inc., bringing us closer, day by day, to realizing the dream of helping people with eczema.
I hope you’ll take a moment to this research highlight written for a general audience.
In other news, I’ll be heading to Charleston, South Carolina next week for a public lecture at the South Carolina Aquarium (Thursday, January 16, 2025 | 6–8 p.m.)! As part of the Lifelong Learning Global Discovery series, I’ll be sharing a story of world travel, research and holistic healing rooted in my personal mission to protect our world from future medical crises.
A signing of my book, “The Plant Hunter: A Scientist’s Quest for Nature’s Next Medicines,” will immediately follow. Books may be purchased prior at Itinerant Literate Books, and a small stock will be available at the event. Hope to see you there!
Yours in health, Dr. Quave
